Early Life and Family Background

Richard Aldborough was the son of Arthur Aldborough, who was born in 1585. His mother was Elizabeth Holland. Her father was Richard Holland from Denton, Lancashire. Richard Aldborough went to Magdalene College, Cambridge for his education.

Richard Aldborough's Political Career

Richard Aldborough started his political career by becoming a Member of Parliament (MP) for Aldborough. He was first elected in 1625 and again in 1626.

In April 1640, he was elected to represent Aldborough in a short meeting of Parliament, called the Short Parliament. Later that same year, in November 1640, he was re-elected for the Long Parliament.

Supporting the King in the Civil War

During the English Civil War, Richard Aldborough strongly supported King Charles I. Because of his support for the King, he was removed from Parliament in 1643.

Even though the Parliamentarian army stayed on his father's land in 1644, the Aldborough family remained loyal to the King. Richard Aldborough was seen as a "delinquent" by Parliament. This meant his property in Humberton was taken away.

Later Life and Family Legacy

Richard Aldborough is believed to have died in 1648. He passed away in Rotterdam, a city in the Netherlands, where he was living in exile. He died before his father did.

In 1627, Richard Aldborough married Alice Mallory. She was the daughter of William Mallory from Studley, Yorkshire. They had four sons together.

After Richard's death, his son William asked Parliament in 1650 to return their family's land. In 1653, Richard's father sold the Aldborough family estate and most of their other properties.
