Richard Bryn Williams facts for kids
Richard Bryn Williams, often called Bryn Williams (1902–1981), was a Welsh writer, poet, and historian. He also wrote plays.
Williams was born in Blaenau Ffestiniog, a town in Gwynedd, Wales. When he was seven years old, his family moved far away to Trelew, in a region called Patagonia in Argentina. This part of Argentina had many Welsh people living there.
In 1923, Bryn Williams returned to Wales. He studied at the University College of North Wales, which is now Bangor University. He became an expert on the history of Patagonia. He also wrote many important books and poems about the area.
Bryn Williams was a big supporter of the National Eisteddfod. This is a famous Welsh festival that celebrates Welsh culture, music, and poetry. He even competed in it himself! He won the main poetry prize, called the "chair," in both 1964 and 1968. From 1975 to 1978, he held a special role as the archdruid, using the bardic name Bryn. Most of his many writings tell stories about life and history in Patagonia.
