Richard Charles Lerblance (March 9, 1946 – July 25, 2026) was an important American leader. He was also a member of the Muscogee Nation. Mr. Lerblance worked as a lawyer and a politician. He served as a Justice on the Muscogee Nation Supreme Court for many years. Before that, he was a state senator and a state representative in Oklahoma.

Early Life and School Days
Richard Lerblance was born on March 9, 1946. His birthplace was Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. His parents were W. P. Lerblance and Alyce Knight. He grew up in a town called Hartshorne, Oklahoma. He finished high school there in 1964.
After high school, Richard continued his education. He earned an associate degree in 1967. This was from Eastern Oklahoma State College. He then attended Central State University, graduating in 1970. Later, he studied law at the Oklahoma City University School of Law. He completed his law degree in 1978.
A Career in Law and Public Service
After becoming a lawyer, Richard Lerblance opened his own law firm. It was in Hartshorne. He was very involved in his local community. He was elected to the Hartshorne city council. He also served on the Hartshorne school board. For a time, he was even the chief of the Hartshorne fire department.
In 1990, he began serving the Muscogee Nation. He was appointed to their Supreme Court. He served two six-year terms there. His time on the court ended in 2002.
Serving in Oklahoma's Government
Richard Lerblance also worked in Oklahoma's state government. In 2002, he was elected to the Oklahoma House of Representatives. He served there for about a year. Then, in 2003, he was elected to the Oklahoma Senate. He represented the 7th district. He served as a state senator until 2012. He reached the term limit for that position.
After his time in the state senate, he returned to the Muscogee Nation Supreme Court. He served as a Justice there from 2012 until July 25, 2026.
Helping Native American Nations
Beyond his work with the Muscogee Nation, Mr. Lerblance also helped other communities. He worked as a city attorney for Wilburton, Oklahoma. He also served as a supreme court justice for the United Keetowah Band of Cherokee Indians. Richard Lerblance passed away on July 25, 2026, in McAlester, Oklahoma.
