His Time in Parliament
In April 1640, Richard Shuttleworth was chosen to be a Member of Parliament (MP). He represented the area called Clitheroe. This Parliament was known as the Short Parliament because it didn't last very long.
Later that same year, in November 1640, he was chosen again. This time, he became an MP for the Long Parliament. This Parliament lasted much longer. Richard Shuttleworth served as an MP until he died in 1648.

Richard Shuttleworth married a woman named Jane Kirk from London. They had two sons together. Their names were Sir Richard (born in 1646) and Nicholas. They also had one daughter, whose name was Fleetwood.
