Biography
Richard Turner was born around 1723 or 1724. His father was Thomas Turner from Great Webly, in Worcestershire, England.
He began his studies at Magdalen Hall, which is part of Oxford University, in 1748. After his studies, he became a chaplain, which is like a private priest, for the Countess of Wigton.
In 1754, he became the vicar of Elmley Castle in Worcestershire. A vicar is a type of church leader. In the same year, he also became the rector of Little Comberton. A rector is another kind of church leader.
In 1785, he received an honorary degree called LL.D. from Glasgow University. This is a special award given for his achievements. Richard Turner passed away on 12 April 1791. He was buried in Norton-juxta-Kempsey, also in Worcestershire.
He was married to Sarah Greene, who was the sister of a lawyer named James Greene. Sarah passed away in 1801. Richard and Sarah had three sons: Thomas, Richard, and Edward. Edward became a general in the Indian Army. They also had two daughters.
