General Sir Richard Wilbraham was a brave officer in the British Army. He was born on April 12, 1811, and passed away on April 30, 1900. He rose through the ranks to become a General. He also became the leader, or colonel, of a famous army group called the Royal Fusiliers.

Early Life and Family
Richard Wilbraham was born into an important family. His parents were Randle Bootle-Wilbraham and Sibylla Egerton. They lived at a place called Rode Hall in Cheshire, England.
His family had many notable members. These included his uncles, Sir John Grey Egerton, 8th Baronet and Sir Philip Grey Egerton, 9th Baronet. His grandfather was Richard Wilbraham-Bootle, who was a Member of Parliament for Chester.
Military Career Highlights
Richard Wilbraham started his military career as a Captain. In the mid-1830s, he worked with the Persian army. He helped train their soldiers, especially those who used rifles. He also traveled a lot in areas near the Caspian Sea and the Black Sea. He even wrote a book about his adventures in these lands.
Serving in Major Wars
Wilbraham then served in the Syrian War. This was a conflict in the Middle East. He gained valuable experience during this time.
Later, he played an important role in the Crimean War. This war took place from 1853 to 1856. He was promoted to major in the 7th Regiment of Foot, which was part of the Royal Fusiliers. During the war, he served as the Adjutant General for the 2nd Division. This meant he helped manage the division's daily operations.
He continued to be promoted for his service. He became a lieutenant colonel in February 1855. Just a few months later, in August 1855, he was promoted to colonel. In 1881, he took on the important role of colonel of the Royal Fusiliers (City of London Regiment).
Personal Life
On November 24, 1846, Richard Wilbraham married his cousin, Elizabeth Frances Egerton. She was the daughter of William Egerton. Sadly, Elizabeth passed away in 1849.
They had one daughter who survived:
- Katherine Frances Wilbraham (born around 1842, died 1945). She married Sir George Baker Wilbraham, 5th Baronet.
Sir Richard Wilbraham lived at Rode Hall for many years. He passed away on April 30, 1900, at the age of 89.
His Grandchildren
Through his daughter Katherine, Sir Richard Wilbraham had several grandchildren. One of them was Sibylla Frances Baker Wilbraham. She married Percy Barnabas Emmet, who became an Archdeacon. Another grandchild was Sir Philip Wilbraham Baker Wilbraham, 6th Baronet. He was an important lawyer and administrator for the church.
