Richard Wingfield, 5th Viscount Powerscourt (born September 11, 1790 – died August 9, 1823) was an important person in Ireland's history. He was a member of the Peerage of Ireland, which means he held a special noble title.

Early Life and Family

Richard Wingfield was born in 1790. His father was Richard Wingfield, who was the 4th Viscount Powerscourt. His mother was Lady Catherine Meade. She was the daughter of a nobleman named John Meade.

When his father passed away, Richard inherited his noble titles. This happened on July 19, 1809. He became the 5th Viscount Powerscourt.

A Role in Parliament

In 1821, Richard was chosen for an important job. He became an Irish representative peer. This meant he was one of the people chosen to speak for Ireland. He took his seat in the House of Lords in London. The House of Lords is part of the British Parliament. It is where important laws and decisions are made.

Richard served in this role for a short time. He passed away in 1823.

Hosting Royalty

In August 1821, something very special happened. Richard hosted George IV, who was the King of the United Kingdom. The King visited Richard's family home. This home was Powerscourt House. It is located in County Wicklow, Ireland. It was a big honor to have the King visit.

Richard Wingfield was married two times. His first wife was Lady Frances Theodosia Jocelyn. They were married on February 6, 1813. After she passed away, he married again. His second wife was Theodosia Howard. They were married in August 1822.

Richard had a son also named Richard. His son later became the 6th Viscount Powerscourt. He took over his father's titles.
