Richdale is a small place in Otter Tail County, which is in the state of Minnesota in the United States. It's known as an unincorporated community.
What is an Unincorporated Community?
An unincorporated community is a place that doesn't have its own local government, like a city or town. Instead, it's usually managed by the county it's in. This means Richdale doesn't have its own mayor or city council. It's more like a neighborhood or a small group of homes.
A Look Back: Richdale's History
Richdale was officially planned out in 1899. This process, called "platting," means someone drew up maps to divide the land into lots for buildings and streets. The community was named after a railroad engineer named Watson Wellman Rich.
A post office opened in Richdale in 1900. This was an important place for people to send and receive mail. However, the post office closed its doors in 1916.
