History of the Church
The church first started in 1877. It was known as the Richmond Presbyterian Church back then. The main church building was designed by an architect named William Wallace. It was built between 1884 and 1885. This building is a Grade II listed building, which means it is an important historical building.
Becoming a United Reformed Church
In 1972, the church became part of the United Reformed Church (URC). This happened when the Presbyterian Church of England joined with the Congregational Church of England and Wales.
Moving to a New Building
From October 2006, the church congregation moved to a new building. This new building was on Quadrant Road, right behind the old church. Members from the former East Sheen United Reformed Church also joined them. The East Sheen church had been meeting since the 1600s. Its building, built in 1902, was known for its special Doulton terracotta work. In 2012, the first floor of the East Sheen building was changed into five flats.
Church Closure
The Richmond Green United Reformed Church closed its doors in September 2015. Most of the people who went to this church then joined the Twickenham United Reformed Church. The building on Quadrant Road is now owned by the Richmond upon Thames Council. It is used as an annex for the Richmond Lending Library.
