About Rick Tramonto
Rick Tramonto was born in Rochester, New York. He started his cooking journey working at a Wendy's Old Fashioned Hamburgers. Later, he worked in big cities like New York City and London, England.
Early Career and Awards
In 1994, Rick was working at a restaurant called Trio in Evanston, Illinois. During this time, Food & Wine Magazine named him one of the "Top Ten Best New Chefs." This was a big honor for him.
In 1999, Rick opened Tru with his cooking partner Gale Gand. They also worked with Rich Melman from Lettuce Entertain You Enterprises. Tru became a very successful restaurant.
In 2002, Rick Tramonto was named the "Best Chef: Midwest Region" by The James Beard Foundation. This is a very important award in the cooking world. In 2007, Rick and his partners at Tru won another James Beard Foundation Award, this time for their excellent service.
Television Appearances
Rick Tramonto has also been on many cooking TV shows. He appeared on "Great Chef" television. You might have seen him on episodes of Great Chefs of America and Great Chefs - Great Cities. He also appeared on popular shows like Top Chef, Top Chef Masters, and Iron Chef America.
In 2006, Rick started a company called Cenitare Restaurants. He opened several restaurants in a hotel in Wheeling, Illinois. He left that company in 2009. Rick also left Tru in 2010.
