Rick Tramonto's Life Story
Rick Tramonto grew up in Rochester, New York. He started his cooking journey working at a Wendy's Old Fashioned Hamburgers restaurant. Later, he worked as a chef in big cities like New York City and London, England.
In 1994, while working at a restaurant called Trio in Evanston, Illinois, Rick was recognized as one of the "Top Ten Best New Chefs" by Food & Wine Magazine. This was a big award for him!
Opening Tru Restaurant
In 1999, Rick Tramonto opened Tru, a modern and fancy restaurant. He started it with his cooking partner Gale Gand and a business partner named Rich Melman.
Tru became very successful. In 2007, Rick and his partners at Tru won a special award for their amazing service from the James Beard Foundation. Rick himself was named the "Best Chef: Midwest Region" by the James Beard Foundation in 2002.
Rick on TV
Rick Tramonto also became a well-known face on cooking shows. He appeared on "Great Chef" television, including episodes of Great Chefs of America and Great Chefs - Great Cities.
He also competed on popular shows like Top Chef, Top Chef Masters, and Iron Chef America. On July 30, 2006, he and Gale Gand competed on Iron Chef: America, where they cooked against another famous chef, Mario Batali.
In 2010, Rick appeared on Bravo's Top Chef Masters Season 2. He was eliminated in the fourth episode of that season.
