Ricky Brad Sobers (born January 15, 1953) is a former professional basketball player from the United States. He played for eleven seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Ricky Sobers was known as a skilled guard on the court.

Early Life and College Years

Ricky Sobers was born in The Bronx, New York. He grew up playing basketball and attended DeWitt Clinton High School in New York City. After high school, he continued his basketball journey in college.

Sobers first played at the College of Southern Idaho from 1971 to 1973. Later, he transferred to the University of Nevada at Las Vegas (UNLV). At UNLV, he became a standout player. In 1975, he was named the West Coast Conference Player of the Year. His jersey number, 40, was later retired by UNLV to honor his achievements.

NBA Career Highlights

Ricky Sobers was chosen by the Phoenix Suns in the 1975 NBA draft. He was the 16th player picked overall. He played two seasons with the Suns, starting his professional career.

Playing in the NBA Finals

In 1976, Ricky Sobers was a key player for the Phoenix Suns in the NBA Finals. He helped his team in what many call "the greatest game ever played" in NBA history. This game was a thrilling triple-overtime match against the Boston Celtics.

Moving to New Teams

After his time with the Suns, Sobers joined the Indiana Pacers in 1977. During the 1977–78 NBA season, he had his best year for scoring points. He averaged 18.2 points per game for the Pacers.

Sobers also played for other NBA teams. These included the Chicago Bulls, the Washington Bullets, and the Seattle SuperSonics. He continued to play in the league until he retired in 1986.
