Ricky Brad Sobers (born January 15, 1953) is a former professional basketball player. He played for eleven seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Ricky Sobers was a 6-foot-3-inch guard. He was known for his speed and scoring ability. Throughout his career, he scored 10,902 points and made 3,525 assists.

Early Life and College Basketball

Ricky Sobers was born in The Bronx, New York. He went to DeWitt Clinton High School in New York City. After high school, he played college basketball. He first attended the College of Southern Idaho from 1971 to 1973. Later, he played for the University of Nevada at Las Vegas (UNLV) from 1973 to 1975.

College Achievements

While at UNLV, Ricky Sobers was a standout player. In 1975, he was named the West Coast Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Year. He was also selected for the First-team All-WCAC in the same year. His jersey number, 40, was later retired by UNLV. This is a special honor for great players.

NBA Career Highlights

Ricky Sobers was chosen by the Phoenix Suns in the 1975 NBA draft. He was the 16th pick overall. He played two seasons for the Suns.

Playing in the NBA Finals

In the 1976 NBA Finals, Sobers was an important player. He helped his team in a game that many people call "the greatest game ever played" in NBA history. This game was a triple-overtime thriller between the Suns and the Boston Celtics.

Moving to New Teams

In 1977, Ricky Sobers joined the Indiana Pacers. He had his best season with them during the 1977–78 NBA season. He averaged 18.4 points per game that year. After playing for the Pacers, he also played for the Chicago Bulls, Washington Bullets, and Seattle SuperSonics. He retired from professional basketball in 1986.
