Ricky Talan was born in a town called Katwijk in the South Holland region of the Netherlands. He came from a family that loved football. His younger brother, Jeffrey Talan, also became a professional footballer, just like Ricky.

Some of the clubs he played for include AZ Alkmaar, Vitesse, Cercle Brugge (a team in Belgium), and Haarlem. He was an important player for these teams until he stopped playing in 1988.

Ricky Talan passed away on 30 September 2015, in Zevenaar, which is in the Gelderland region of the Netherlands. He was 54 years old when he died. He passed away due to brain cancer.
