Risa Sato (佐藤 理沙, Satō Risa) is a talented volleyball player. She has both Filipino and Japanese heritage. Risa currently lives in the Philippines. She is known for playing as a middle blocker. She played for the NU Lady Bulldogs in college. Now, she plays professionally for the Chery Tiggo Crossovers in the Premier Volleyball League.

Risa Sato's Early Life
Risa Sato was born on October 4, 1994, in Osaka, Japan. She grew up there with her family. Her mother is Filipino, and her father is Japanese. Risa started playing volleyball when she was in school in Japan. When she was 19, she moved to the Philippines with her mother. She wanted to follow her dream of playing volleyball there.
Her Volleyball Journey
Risa came to the Philippines in 2013. She hoped to play for Ateneo de Manila University's college team. She even played for Ateneo as a guest player in the Shakey's V-League. However, she could not get into Ateneo because she did not pass the entrance exams. These exams were in English.
In 2015, Risa tried out for National University. She joined their team and started studying sports and wellness management. By 2017, she was playing for National University. At the same time, she also played for the BaliPure Purest Water Defenders in the Premier Volleyball League. With the NU Lady Bulldogs, she helped them win the Premier Volleyball League 1st Season Collegiate Conference championship.
Awards in College
During her time in college, Risa won several awards for her skills:
- She was named the "1st Best Middle Blocker" in the 2017 PVL Reinforced Conference.
- She also earned "2nd Best Middle Blocker" in both the 2017 PVL Open Conference and the 2017 PVL Collegiate Conference.
Professional Club Career
After college, Risa played for the Creamline Cool Smashers. She was with them from 2018 until 2024. The Creamline Cool Smashers are one of the most successful teams in the league. In 2025, Risa made a big move. She joined the Chery Tiggo Crossovers, where she plays today.
Playing for Her Country
Risa Sato has also represented the Philippines in international games.
- In 2015, she played for the Philippine youth national team. This was at the 2015 Asian Women's U23 Volleyball Championship held in Pasig.
- She was also part of the senior national team. They played in the 2015 VTV International Women's Volleyball Cup in Vietnam.
