Rishard Andre Matthews (born October 12, 1989) is a former American football wide receiver. He played college football for the University of Nevada. The Miami Dolphins picked him in the seventh round of the 2012 NFL draft. He also played for the Tennessee Titans and New York Jets.

Rishard Matthews' Early Life
Rishard Matthews was born on October 12, 1989. His hometown is Santa Ana, California. He went to Saddleback High School.
At Saddleback, he played for the football team. He also played basketball. He was good at basketball, averaging almost 10 points per game.
College Football Career
Matthews first planned to play for the University of Oregon. But he started his college career at Bakersfield College. Later, he moved to the University of Nevada, Reno.
He played two years at Nevada. In his first year, he caught passes from Colin Kaepernick. Matthews had 147 catches for 2,243 yards and 13 touchdowns. He was named second-team all-WAC as a wide receiver.

Joining the Miami Dolphins
The Miami Dolphins chose Rishard Matthews in the 2012 NFL Draft. He was the 227th player picked overall. He made his first catch on November 15, 2012. It was for 19 yards against the Buffalo Bills.
In his first year, he caught 11 passes for 151 yards. In 2013, he became a key player for the Dolphins. He had his first game with two touchdowns on November 11, 2013. He caught 11 passes for 120 yards against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Matthews became a reliable target for the team. He helped the Dolphins win against the New England Patriots. He caught a 24-yard pass that kept a winning drive going. He finished 2013 with 41 catches for 448 yards and two touchdowns.
The 2014 season was not as strong for Matthews. He finished with 12 catches for 135 yards and two touchdowns. In 2015, he had a career-long 53-yard touchdown catch. This happened in a big win against the Houston Texans.
Later in 2015, Matthews got hurt. He suffered broken ribs in a game against the New York Jets. He ended the 2015 season with 43 catches for 662 yards and four touchdowns.
Playing for the Tennessee Titans
On March 9, 2016, Matthews signed with the Tennessee Titans. In his first year with the Titans, he had his best season. He gained 945 receiving yards and scored 9 touchdowns. He led the team in both categories.
In 2017, he continued to play well. He scored a 55-yard touchdown against the Seattle Seahawks. He also had a 75-yard touchdown against the Pittsburgh Steelers. He finished 2017 with 53 catches for 795 yards and four touchdowns.
In 2018, Matthews asked to be released from the Titans. He felt he wasn't getting enough playing time. The team agreed and let him go. He ended his time with the Titans with 121 catches, 1,751 receiving yards, and 13 touchdowns.
Short Stays with Other Teams
After leaving the Titans, Matthews signed with the New York Jets on October 23, 2018. He played in five games for the Jets. He caught two passes for 13 yards before getting injured.
On June 13, 2019, Matthews signed with the New Orleans Saints. However, he was released on August 10, 2019.
Announcing Retirement
On August 12, 2019, Rishard Matthews announced he was retiring from the NFL.

Rishard Matthews' Family Life
Rishard's father, Andre Matthews, was a Marine. His half-brother, Christopher Ruiz, also served in the Marines. Sadly, Christopher passed away in 2015.
