Ristolas was a small village located in the Hautes-Alpes department in southeastern France. A "commune" is like a local town or village area. On January 1, 2019, Ristolas joined with another commune, Abriès-Ristolas, to form a new, larger commune. The village is nestled in the Queyras region. It sits on the left bank of the Guil river, which starts in the southeastern part of the former commune.
Climate in Ristolas
Ristolas experiences a mountain climate. Summers are generally warm and pleasant. Winters are cold, with temperatures often dropping below freezing. The area gets a good amount of rain and snow, especially in spring and autumn. For example, November often sees the most precipitation.
Population Changes Over Time
The number of people living in Ristolas has changed a lot over the years. In the late 1700s, around 700 people lived there. The population slowly decreased over many decades. By the mid-1900s, it was much smaller, with only about 50 to 60 residents. In recent years, the population has grown a little. In 2021, about 97 people lived in what was once Ristolas.
