The River Ashburn is a small but important river in Devon, England. It flows through the beautiful Dartmoor area. This river gives its name to the town of Ashburton, which it passes through.

The Ashburn is known for being a clean and fast-flowing river. It eventually joins a much larger river, the River Dart.

The Journey of the River Ashburn

The River Ashburn starts its journey high up on Dartmoor. It is about 10 kilometers (6 miles) long. The river begins its flow at a place called Horridge Common. This spot is quite high up, at 365 meters (1,198 feet) above sea level.

Where the Ashburn Begins

The very start of the river is near a place called Rippon Tor. From there, it quickly flows downhill. The water rushes through a steep valley. This valley is often covered with trees and has many old stone bridges crossing over the river.

Flowing Through Ashburton

As the river continues, it reaches the town of Ashburton. It enters the town from the north side. You can see it flowing past the Ashburton Town Hall. After this, the river turns west. It then leaves the town, passing by the town park. The river also flows close to the A38 road.

Joining the River Dart

Finally, the River Ashburn reaches its end point. It joins the larger River Dart. This meeting point is near the town of Buckfastleigh. The Ashburn is a typical Dartmoor river, known for its clear water and quick movement.
