River City Marketplace (RCM) is a large outdoor shopping center in Jacksonville, Florida. It's located in the Northside area and is the only big mall north of the St. Johns River. This marketplace first opened its doors on November 17, 2006.
When it opened, it had three main "anchor" stores. These are big, well-known stores that attract many shoppers. The first three were Walmart, Lowe's, and Regal Cinemas River City Marketplace 14. A fourth big store, Gander Mountain, opened later but closed in 2017. The shopping area covers about 125 acres. It is located near Interstate 95 and Jacksonville International Airport.
Fun at the Movies
One of the cool places at River City Marketplace is the movie theater. A company called Hollywood Theaters built a large building just for movies. It opened on September 21, 2006. This theater had 14 screens, and all of them featured stadium seating. This means the seats are tiered, so everyone has a great view of the screen.
In 2013, another company, Regal Entertainment Group, bought the theater. It then became known as Regal Cinemas River City Marketplace 14. It's a popular spot for watching the latest films.
What You'll Find Today
Even though River City Marketplace didn't turn out exactly as first planned, it's still a very important place. It is the biggest shopping center built in Jacksonville's Northside area. Before it opened, people living there had to drive about 20 minutes to find a wide variety of stores. They would have to go across the river or to Orange Park.
Now, River City Marketplace offers many different stores and places to eat. This makes shopping much easier and closer for people in the Northside. It's a great place to hang out with friends or find what you need.
