The River Isla is a beautiful river in North-East Scotland. Its name in Scottish Gaelic is Uisge Ìle. This river is a branch, or tributary, of the larger River Deveron. The area around the River Isla is known as Strathisla. It's important not to mix it up with Glenisla, which is a different place around another River Isla in Perthshire.

Exploring the River Isla

The River Isla starts its journey northeast of a place called Milltown of Auchindoun. From there, it flows towards the northeast for about 18 miles (29 kilometers). This journey takes it through the lovely area known as Strathisla.

Where the River Flows

As the River Isla travels, it passes between the towns of Keith and Fife-Keith. For a short part of its path, the river forms a natural border. It separates the regions of Moray and Aberdeenshire. Finally, the River Isla joins the River Deveron near the town of Rothiemay.

Wildlife and Nature

Rivers like the Isla are home to many different plants and animals. You might find various types of fish swimming in its waters. Birds often nest along its banks, and other wildlife can be seen nearby. The river's path through the countryside helps create a rich natural environment.
