Keith is a small town in northeast Scotland. It is located in the Moray area. About 4,700 people live there. Its Scottish Gaelic name is Baile Chèith.
Historically, Keith was part of Banffshire. The town has three main parts. These are Old Town, the oldest area; Keith, the main shopping and business center; and Fife Keith. Fife Keith used to be a separate town, but it joined with Keith over time. A river now separates these parts.
The oldest part of Keith, the Old Town, dates back to around 1180. It grew around an old bridge. This bridge was built by parents who lost their child in the river. They hoped it would prevent similar accidents. The main part of the town was planned around 1750 by the Earl of Findlater. It sits on higher ground above the river. Keith is located where the A95 and A96 roads meet.
In Keith, you can find a health center, dentist, and optician. There are also several hairdressing salons. The town has three schools: Keith Grammar School, Keith Primary School, and St Thomas RC Primary School.
The annual Keith Country Show is a big event. It takes place at Seafield Park. This show is important for farmers in northeast Scotland.
The village of Newmill is about 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) north of Keith.

Exploring Keith's Past and Culture
The name Keith likely comes from an old word meaning "wood." It might also be linked to the ancient Pictish area called Cé.
The Chronicles of Keith are old writings from the 1800s. They tell us a lot about the area's history. These writings say Keith was once called "Kethmalruff." This name honored Saint Maol Rubha, a saint from the early church.
During the Jacobite rising of 1745, a small battle happened in Keith. On March 21, 1746, the Jacobite Army won a fight here. They defeated a government force, killing over 20 soldiers. This showed that the Jacobites were still strong in northern Scotland. This was just before the big Battle of Culloden in April 1746.
The local language spoken around Keith is called Doric. It replaced Scottish Gaelic over time.
Keith is home to a band called The Carousels. Their song 'Marianne' was even used in a TV advertisement for Irn-Bru, a popular Scottish drink.
An old golf club in Keith started in 1901. However, it closed during the Second World War. The golf course then became farmland again.
