The River Wolf is a small river located in the western part of Devon, England. Its name might come from an old Celtic word. It is not named after the animal, the wolf.
The river starts its journey from Broadbury. It flows through the valley below Germansweek. Eventually, it reaches Roadford Lake, which is a large reservoir built in 1989. In July 2006, a lot of water was let out from the lake. This helped salmon survive in the river during a very dry period.

Journey of the River Wolf
After leaving Roadford Lake, the River Wolf continues its path. It flows through Slew Woods, passing below the village of Broadwoodwidger. The river then moves south.
Where the River Wolf Flows
The River Wolf eventually joins with the River Thrushel near Stowford. After that, it meets the River Lew at Tinhay, close to Lifton. At this point, the river changes its name and becomes the River Lyd. The River Lyd then flows until it joins the River Tamar. This meeting point is near the border between Devon and Cornwall, just east of Launceston.
Protecting the River Wolf
The Natural England organization in the United Kingdom helps protect rivers and farmlands. They have a special program called Catchment-sensitive farming. This program gives money to farmers to help them protect the environment.
How Farming Helps Rivers
The River Wolf is one of the important rivers included in this program. This means that efforts are made to keep the river clean and healthy. Farmers learn ways to farm that do not harm the river. This helps protect the water and the animals that live in and around the river.
