Macromia is a group, or genus, of really big dragonflies. They belong to a family of dragonflies called Macromiidae. People often call them river cruisers because they like to fly long distances along the edges of rivers.
Most kinds of Macromia dragonflies live in warm, tropical places, especially in the Australasian region (like Australia and nearby islands). But you can also find one type in Europe (it's called Macromia splendens), and a few other types live in North America.
