The Riverfront Apartments building is a tall structure located in Downtown Toledo, Ohio. It stands at 245 North Summit Street. This building is about 289 feet (88 meters) high.
For 17 years, from 1913 to 1930, it was the tallest building in Toledo. Today, it is the fifth-tallest building in the city.
History of the Riverfront Apartments
This 21-story building was built between 1912 and 1913. It was originally made for the Second National Bank. The bank wanted to use the lower floors for its business. The upper floors were planned as office spaces for other companies.
The A. Bentley & Sons Company from Toledo was the main builder. The architects who designed the building were D. H. Burnham & Company from Chicago.
From Bank to Offices
When it first opened in 1913, the building was called the Second National Bank Building. This name stayed until the bank joined with another bank called Toledo Trust.
From the 1930s until 1981, the building became the main office for Toledo Trust bank. During this time, it was known as the Toledo Trust Building. In 1981, Toledo Trust moved its main office to a new building across the street.
Becoming Apartments
In 1998, a company called Eyde Co. bought the old Toledo Trust building. They paid $4.5 million for it. This deal also included the Tower on the Maumee and a nearby parking garage.
In 1999, the office building was changed into apartments. It was then given its current name, the Riverfront Apartments.
