The Tower on the Maumee is a very tall building, known as a skyscraper, in Toledo, Ohio. You can find it at 200 North Saint Clair Street. This building was finished in 1969 and stands about 400 feet (120 m) high. It's a cool example of a building style called the International Style. In 2012, it became a special historic place listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Back then, it was known as "Riverview."
This tower was first built to be the main office for a company called Owens-Corning Fiberglas Company. They stayed there for 27 years, until 1996. After they left, the building was empty for a long time, until October 2018. In 2016, a company called Eyde Company bought the building. They gave it a new name, Tower on the Maumee. They also planned to turn the top floors into fancy apartments and update the offices below.

Building a Landmark
The idea for this big project came from a company called Riverview One Corp. They thought it would cost between $12 million and $18 million to build. The tower was designed by famous architects named Harrison & Abramovitz from New York. The main company that built it was Turner Construction, also from New York.
Before the tower could be built, an old 10-story hotel, the Fort Meigs Hotel, stood on the spot. It was built in 1927. In 1966, this hotel and other buildings were taken down to make space for the new tower.
Starting Construction
Work on the Fiberglas Tower began on May 1, 1967. Leaders from Owens-Corning Fiberglas Corp. announced that day that their company would move into the new tower. You might notice the name "Fiberglas" is spelled a bit differently. That's because Owens-Corning used Fiberglas as their special trademark name for their glass fiber products. The common word fiberglass couldn't be used as a trademark.
The very top of the tower was finished on April 5, 1968. This is called "topping out" in construction.
Life in the Tower
Owens-Corning moved into almost all of the Fiberglas Tower when it opened in July 1969. But in 1993, the company announced they would be leaving. They finally moved out in 1996. The tower was empty for more than 20 years after that.
In 2017, the Eyde Company shared that renovations were partly done. They said a new business would move in during 2018. In October 2018, Directions Credit Union became the first business to use space in the updated building. They moved their main office there from Sylvania.
