The Rivière à Ange, also known as the Angel River, is a small river in Quebec, Canada. It flows into another stream called the Ruisseau du Pied du Mont. The entire river is located within the town of Baie-Saint-Paul.

A forest road helps people get to this river valley. The main activities here are forestry, which means cutting down trees, and tourism, where people visit for fun.

The river usually freezes from early December to early April. It's safest to walk on the ice from mid-December to late March. The amount of water in the river changes with the seasons and how much rain or snow falls. The river often floods in the spring, usually in April.

Where the River Starts and Ends

The Rivière à Ange begins at a lake called Grand Lac à Ange. This lake is about 1.2 kilometres (0.75 mi) long and sits high up in the mountains at 771 metres (2,530 ft) above sea level. The mountains around it are very tall, with one reaching 1,089 metres (3,573 ft) to the south.

The lake where the river starts is located:

From its source, the Rivière à Ange flows for 5.0 kilometres (3.1 mi). It drops about 291 metres (955 ft) in height along its path.

The river flows into the Ruisseau du Pied du Mont in Baie-Saint-Paul. This meeting point is located:

After the Rivière à Ange joins the Ruisseau du Pied du Mont, the water continues its journey. It flows for 4.1 kilometres (2.5 mi) along the Ruisseau du Pied du Mont, then for 11.0 kilometres (6.8 mi) along the Rivière des Mares. Finally, it flows for 7.8 kilometres (4.8 mi) along the Rivière du Gouffre, which eventually empties into the St. Lawrence River at Baie-Saint-Paul.

Why the River is Called "Angel River"

The name "Rivière à Ange" means "Angel River" in English. This name first appeared on a map in 1955. People who lived in the area in 1970 said that the river was named after the first name of the person who took care of the facilities at Lac Équerre.

The official name "Rivière à Ange" was made formal on March 25, 1997, by the Quebec Place Names Bank.
