The Savane du Nord river is a small river in Quebec, Canada. It flows into the Sainte-Anne River. This river passes through the Lac-Pikauba area and the city of Baie-Saint-Paul. It's located in the Charlevoix region. The river starts in the Laurentides Wildlife Reserve and then flows along its edge.
The area around the river is mostly used for forestry, which means cutting down trees for wood. Tourism, like visiting for fun, is also important. Roads help people get to different parts of the valley.
Because it's high up, the river's surface usually freezes from late November to early April. You can safely walk on the ice from mid-December to late March. The water level changes with the seasons and how much it rains or snows. The biggest flood happens in March or April when the snow melts.

The Savane du Nord river begins at the dam of Savane Lake. This lake is in the Lac-Pikauba area, inside the Laurentides Wildlife Reserve. This starting point is high up in the mountains.

Where Does the River End?
The Savane du Nord river joins the Sainte-Anne River. This meeting point is about 25.3 kilometers (15.7 miles) west of Baie-Saint-Paul. It's also about 52.9 kilometers (32.9 miles) north of the center of Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré.
After joining the Savane du Nord river, the Sainte-Anne River flows for about 53.9 kilometers (33.5 miles). It first goes southeast, then southwest. The Sainte-Anne River eventually flows through downtown Beaupré and empties into the Saint Lawrence River.
How Did the River Get Its Name?
The name "Savane du Nord river" was first seen on a map draft on May 21, 1959. Sometimes, it's also called "Rivière Savane." The name comes from the area where the river is located, which was once part of the Seminary Lands of Quebec.
The official name, "rivière Savane du Nord," was made formal on December 5, 1968. This was done by the Commission de toponymie du Québec, which is like a special group that names places in Quebec.
