Where is the Rivière à la Carpe Located?

The Rivière à la Carpe is surrounded by other rivers and lakes. These are its neighbors:

Where Does the River Start?

The Rivière à la Carpe begins at a lake called Lac Neuf. This lake is about 1.4 km (0.87 mi) long. It sits at an altitude of 375 m (1,230 ft). Two small streams flow into Lac Neuf. These streams are surrounded by marshy areas.

How Does the River Flow?

From Lac Neuf, the Rivière à la Carpe flows for 20.2 km (12.6 mi). It drops about 125 m (410 ft) in height along its path.

Here is how the river flows:

  • It flows 4.4 km (2.7 mi) to the northwest. It picks up water from two small lakes. Then it reaches a bend where another stream joins it.
  • Next, it flows 4.0 km (2.5 mi) to the west. It makes small curves and collects water from "Lac à la Vache". Then it reaches the outlet of Lac à la Carpe.
  • After that, it flows 7.5 km (4.7 mi) to the west. It forms small streams and gets water from two more lakes. It also goes through three sets of rapids. Then it reaches another bend in the river.
  • Finally, it flows 4.3 km (2.7 mi) to the northwest. It bends west near the end. It collects one more stream before reaching its mouth. The mouth is on the east bank of the Métabetchouane River.

Where Does the River End Up?

After joining the Métabetchouane River, the water flows north for 11.9 km (7.4 mi). This leads to the south shore of Lac Saint-Jean. From there, the water crosses Lac Saint-Jean for 22.8 km (14.2 mi) to the northeast.

Then, the water enters the Saguenay River through La Petite Landfill. It travels for 172.3 km (107.1 mi) until it reaches Tadoussac. At Tadoussac, the water joins the Saint Lawrence estuary.
