The Roaring River is a river in northwestern North Carolina, United States. It is a tributary of the Yadkin River. This means it's a smaller river that flows into the larger Yadkin River.
The Roaring River is part of a bigger water system. Its water eventually flows into the Pee Dee River, which then travels all the way to the Atlantic Ocean. The river got its name because its starting points, called headwaters, are in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Here, the water flows over many small waterfalls, making a "roaring" sound!
Where the River Flows
The Roaring River and its main starting streams, known as the East, Middle, and West Prongs, are all found entirely within Wilkes County. These streams begin high up in the Blue Ridge Mountains, close to Stone Mountain State Park.
After its main streams join together, the Roaring River flows towards the southeast. It eventually meets the Yadkin River about 4 miles (6 km) south-southwest of a town called Ronda. The small community of Roaring River is even named after this very river, as it's located right where the river joins the Yadkin.
