Rob Dixon is an American jazz saxophone player. He lives in Indianapolis. Rob Dixon is well-known for making music and for leading music groups.

Rob Dixon's Music Career
Rob Dixon studied music at Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music. After finishing college, he spent several years playing jazz music in New York City.
In 2003, he moved back to Indianapolis. There, he worked with many music groups. These included the Cleveland Heritage Jazz Orchestra and the Buselli-Wallarab Jazz Orchestra.
Albums and Collaborations
Rob Dixon has released two albums as a bandleader with Owl Studios. These albums are What Things Could Be (released in 2006) and Reinvention: The Dixon-Rhyne Project (released in 2008).
He also often plays with other musicians from Owl Studios. Some of these artists include Derrick Gardner & the Jazz Prophets, the Buselli-Wallarab Jazz Orchestra, Cynthia Layne, Steve Allee, Mike Clark, and The Headhunters.
Community Work and Leadership
Besides making music, Rob Dixon helps promote jazz in his community. In 2023, the Center for Africana Studies at Indiana University Indianapolis chose him as their artist in residence. This means he will be a special artist there until the 2024-2025 school year.
Rob Dixon is also the artistic director for Indy Jazz Fest. This is a big jazz music festival. He also leads the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra Youth Jazz Ensemble. This group helps young musicians learn and play jazz.
In 2015, the Indianapolis Jazz Foundation honored him for his amazing career. They added him to the Indianapolis Jazz Hall of Fame.
