Robert (Rob) Gore (born 1977) is an American doctor who works in emergency rooms. He is famous for starting the Kings Against Violence Initiative (KAVI). Dr. Gore teaches at Kings County Hospital Center in Brooklyn, New York. In 2016, he was one of the first TED Residents. In 2018, he was named a CNN Hero for his important work.

Who is Dr. Rob Gore?
Dr. Rob Gore is a doctor who helps people in emergencies. He also works hard to stop violence in communities. He believes that violence is a health problem, just like a sickness.
His Early Life and School Days
Rob Gore grew up in Brooklyn, New York. His mother was a teacher, and his father worked to help their community. He went to Morehouse College and finished in 1998. Later, he studied medicine at the University at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, graduating in 2002. He also trained at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County.
Helping People Around the World
Since 2008, Dr. Gore has helped a medical clinic in Haiti. This clinic, called Clinique Espérance et Vie, supports people in Terrier-Rouge and nearby areas. He also helped create a TV show called The Global Empowerment Project. This show shared stories about their work.
Dr. Gore also started a special program. It is called the Minority Medical Student Emergency Medicine Summer Fellowship. This program helps young people from diverse backgrounds learn about medicine. It gives them mentors and support.
Fighting Violence with KAVI
Dr. Gore believes that violence is a big problem for public health. In 2009, he started the Kings Against Violence Initiative (KAVI). KAVI is a non-profit program that works in schools, hospitals, and communities. Its main goal is to teach young people how to solve problems without fighting.
He created a team called Hospital Responders. These are people who can help calmly when tough situations happen in the community. Dr. Gore also held breakfast meetings. These meetings helped young Black people talk about their problems and avoid arguments. KAVI grew bigger in 2011. Dr. Gore encouraged his family, friends, and co-workers to join in. KAVI is now part of NYC Health + Hospitals. Similar programs exist in Harlem and The Bronx. In 2018, Dr. Gore was chosen as a Presidential Leadership Scholar. This program is supported by the George W. Bush Presidential Center and Clinton Presidential Center. During this time, he worked on ways to make KAVI even more helpful.
Awards and Recognition
In 2016, Dr. Gore gave a Ted Talk called Healing Inner-City Trauma. He was also part of the first group of TED residents that year. He talked about KAVI on History NOW in 2016. The United Hospital Fund honored his achievements in 2017. That same year, he was named one of Black Enterprise's 100 Men of Distinction. In 2018, he was chosen as a CNN Hero. He also received the Vanguard Award from the Citizens' Committee for Children. This award recognized his work helping young people who are at risk.
Dr. Gore's first book, Treating Violence, was released on May 7, 2024.
