Robert "Rob" Redding Jr. is an American podcaster, journalist, teacher, author, and artist. From 2012 to 2013, he hosted his show Redding News Review on Sirius XM.

About Rob Redding
Early Life and Education
Rob Redding grew up in Atlanta, Georgia. His father was a preacher, and his mother was a teacher. He studied speech communication at the University of Louisiana. He later earned a master's degree in communication from Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia. In 2022, he also earned a Master's in Fine Art in painting and drawing from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. He lives in New York City and has a daughter named Rachel.
Journalism and Teaching Career
Redding has taught communications at Pace University and New York City College of Technology. He currently teaches at Seton Hall University. Before teaching, he was a talk radio host at WAOK in Atlanta, starting in 2002. His show was very popular. In 2003, his producer, Quiana Knox, sadly passed away. Redding left WAOK-AM later that year due to a contract issue. He is known as "America's Independent Voice" on the air. He was named one of the "100 most important radio talk hosts in America."
He also worked as a journalist for newspapers like The Washington Times. He started his own news and commentary show while working as a program director at KMLB. He returned to radio syndication on WAOK and other stations in 2010. His show was added to weekdays and later moved to Sirius XM. Since 2014, his show has continued as a podcast called Redding News Review Unrestricted on his website.
Important Reporting and Discussions
Redding has reported on many important topics. In 2003, he asked Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue tough questions about the state flag. In 2004, he reported on NBC anchor Brian Williams' comments about newsroom diversity. This led to a meeting between the National Association of Black Journalists and NBC.
In 2007, Redding shared news about threats made against black columnist Leonard Pitts. In 2011, he had a discussion with Rush Limbaugh about comments made regarding Barack Obama's speech. In 2012, he spoke at universities about how talk radio affects presidential elections. In 2013, Redding interviewed recording artist Stromae about racism in Europe. Stromae shared how he was called a "monkey," which inspired his hit song Formidable.
In 2017, Redding reported on CoverGirl's James Charles' comments about certain groups of people. This led to Charles apologizing. In 2020, Redding's interview with Texas A&M University professor Tommy J. Curry led to many threats against Curry. Redding sometimes appears on the National Public Radio Roundtable feature. He has also been quoted in major newspapers like The Associated Press and The New York Times.
Writing Books
Rob Redding has written many bestselling books. .....
His book, New Identities: Unmasking Male Racist Transphobia, explores how some people use identity politics. His book Ritual (2024) investigates the connection between organized religion and society.
In 2023, his book Unquotable featured his own illustrations and discussed topics like race, class, and politics. Another 2023 book, Africa: How it can save the World, was also a bestseller. His 2023 book Smeared was based on his art thesis from Pratt Institute.
In 2021, Target: Unwrapping Racism became a bestseller. This book looked at the origins of racism. His artwork "Target" is on the book's cover. .....
His book Sinister Citizen (2017) is a fiction story about President Trump's America. Why Black Lives Matter: How Borigination Explains How to Get Police and Whites to Treat Blacks Like People (2015) discusses how to address police brutality and racism.
Unthinkable: Poems, Philosophies and Paintings (2014) was another bestseller. Not a Nonviolent Negro: How I Survived Obama (2013) was praised for its bold and honest writing. Disrupter: Pathway to Political Independence (2012) helps people understand how to live a politically independent life.
Resurrection: A Historical Anthology of Two Forgotten African-American Philosophers (2012) brought attention to two important black philosophers. His book Where's the Change?: Why Neither Obama, nor the GOP Can Solve America's Problems (2012) argued that neither political party could solve the country's issues.

Music and Other Work
Redding started his media career in music radio. He was known as Tony Smoove at WIBB-FM in Macon, Georgia, when he was 20 years old. He was not afraid to share his opinions on his nightly talk show. He helped the station become number one in 1997. He later joined WFXM, a HipHop station. He released "Tony Smoove's Aircheck Volume 1" (1998), which featured early recordings of rappers like Bubba Sparxxx. He left music radio in 1999 to focus on news and talk radio.
Since then, he has continued his musical pursuits. His music albums include "Not a Nonviolent Negro" (2013) and "Unleash the Whip" (2012). Redding also narrated the film "Stay, Brady, Stay" (2009). In 2008, he was voted one of the "Hottest Media Types, Male, On Air." In the fall of 2024, he joined Ikon Models, expanding his creative work.
Art
Rob Redding is also a talented artist. In September 2024, he had a successful solo art show called "Black & White" at the Morningside Heights Library in New York City. He also showed 10 unique art pieces at the Soho Project Space in New York.
In June 2023, Consciousness Magazine featured Redding on its cover, calling him "The Master of Commentary and Canvas." The magazine praised his "monochrome" artwork. Later that year, his work "Kenosha 7: Pow, Pow, Pow, Pow, Pow, Pow, Pow and Jacob Blake's Life is Changed Forever" was shown at the Pratt Manhattan Gallery.
In May 2023, New York's Black Star News described his "Constructive Expressionism" art style as "highly original." Art reviewer Per Larson called his work "iconic" in 2017. In 2018, he had his first solo show in Manhattan at the NoHoM55 Gallery in Chelsea. Redding's artwork Black Power: Unapologetically Militant was shown at the Fridman Gallery and later sold for $10,000. His art also appeared in the May 2021 edition of Art in America.
