Robert René Alberts, born on November 14, 1954, is a football coach from the Netherlands. He used to be a professional football player too.

Playing Football

Robert Alberts started his football journey playing for Ajax's third team. He also played for teams like Clermont Foot in France and the Vancouver Whitecaps in North America. He ended his playing career in Sweden.

Coaching Career

Robert Alberts began coaching football in Sweden. Later, he moved to Malaysia. There, he led Kedah FA to win the league and the Malaysia Cup in 1993.

Coaching in Singapore

Alberts also coached in Singapore. He managed Tanjong Pagar United and Home United. With Home United, he won the Singapore Premier League title in 1999. After that, he coached the Under-19 teams for South Korea.

Success in Indonesia

Alberts became the manager of Arema Indonesia. He led them to win the Indonesian Super League in the 2009–10 season. This made him the first foreign manager to win Indonesia's top league in his first year.

Return to Sarawak FA

In 2011, Alberts returned to coach Sarawak FA for the second time. He had coached them before, from 2008 to 2009. He stayed with Sarawak until 2015. During this time, Sarawak won the Malaysia Premier League in 2013. They also finished as runners-up in 2011, earning promotion to the Super League both times. In 2013, Sarawak reached the semi-finals of the Malaysia Cup under his guidance.

Coaching PSM Makassar and Persib Bandung

In June 2016, Alberts went back to coach PSM Makassar. He had coached them briefly in 2010. In the 2018 Liga 1 season, he led PSM Makassar to finish second in the league.

Alberts left PSM Makassar because of his health. However, he soon signed a contract with Persib Bandung before the 2019 Liga 1 season. This move disappointed many PSM fans. He guided Persib to a runner-up finish in the 2021–22 Liga 1 season. On August 10, 2022, he resigned from Persib Bandung. This decision came after pressure from Bobotoh, who are Persib's fans.
