Clermont Foot 63, often just called Clermont Foot, is a professional football club from the city of Clermont-Ferrand in France. The team plays in Ligue 2, the second-highest level of French football. Their nickname is Les Lanciers, which means "The Lancers."
The club was first started way back in 1911. The version of the club that exists today was formed in 1990 after two other clubs joined together. They play their home games at the Stade Gabriel-Montpied.
Clermont Foot is famous for being the first professional men's team in France to hire a female manager, Corinne Diacre, who coached the team from 2014 to 2017. In 2021, the club made history again by getting promoted to Ligue 1, France's top football league, for the very first time. They returned to Ligue 2 in 2024.

Club History
Early Years and a New Beginning
The club's story began in 1911 under the name Stade Clermontois. In the 1945–46 season, the team had a great run in the Coupe de France (the French Cup), making it all the way to the semi-finals. However, the club faced money problems and had to stop being a professional team for a while.
In 1984, a big change happened. Stade-Clermontois merged with another local team, AS Montferrand, to create the Clermont-Ferrand Football Club (CFC). This new club had to start over in a lower league, but it marked a new chapter in their history.
Climbing the Ranks
After the merger, the club was renamed Clermont Foot Auvergne. Over the next 13 years, the team worked hard and earned several promotions, moving up from the lower divisions all the way to Ligue 2 in 1993.
During this time, Clermont became known for its exciting performances in the Coupe de France. In 1997, they had an amazing cup run where they knocked out three big professional teams: Martigues, Lorient, and the famous Paris Saint-Germain. They were finally beaten by Nice, but their performance showed everyone what they were capable of.
The team won the Championnat National (the third division) in 2007, which promoted them back to Ligue 2.
Making History with Female Managers
In 2014, Clermont Foot made headlines around the world. They became the first professional men's team in France to hire a female manager, Helena Costa. Although she left the job shortly after, the club quickly hired another woman, Corinne Diacre.
Diacre managed the team for three years and was very successful. Her work at Clermont led to her becoming the coach of the French women's national team.
Reaching the Top
The club's biggest achievement came in the 2020–21 season. By finishing second in Ligue 2, Clermont was promoted to Ligue 1 for the first time ever. It was a historic moment for the club and its fans. They played in the top league for three seasons before being relegated back to Ligue 2 after the 2023–24 season.
