Robert Coleman-Senghor (born 1940 – died April 9, 2011) was an American professor. He taught English at Sonoma State University. He also served as the mayor of Cotati, California for one year. He passed away suddenly in a hospital due to a health issue.

Early Life and Education
Robert Coleman-Senghor was born in 1940. His birthplace was Amite City, Louisiana. His family moved to California when he was young. He went to Berkeley High School.
After high school, he joined the United States Marine Corps. He served in the Marines from 1958 to 1962. After his military service, he went to college. He studied at the University of California, Berkeley. Later, he earned a master's degree from the University of San Francisco.
Becoming a Professor and Public Servant
Robert met Gabi Schmitz while teaching. They were both professors at Sonoma State University. They got married in 1994. Together, they had four sons.
Living in the Cotati area, Robert was very active. He coached soccer for local teams. He also helped out with the Parent-Teacher Association. He taught English and California Cultural Studies at Sonoma State University.
Robert was also interested in local government. He joined the Cotati's Design Review Committee. He also served on the Planning Commission. These groups help make decisions about the city's future.
His Time as Mayor
In 2008, there were three open spots on the Cotati City Council. Robert decided to run for one of these positions. He was elected to the City Council. He received 1,296 votes from the community.
In 2009, he became the vice-mayor. The next year, in 2010, he was elected mayor. He served as mayor of Cotati for one year.
While still teaching, Robert experienced sudden chest pains. He passed away two days later, on April 9, 2011.
Legacy
Robert Coleman-Senghor is remembered in Cotati. On November 7, 2013, a special memorial was created. His wife, Gabi Schmitz, helped unveil it. The memorial is in Cotati's Veterans Park. It is located near Old Redwood Highway and East Cotati Avenue.
