Robert Douglas's Football Journey
Robert Douglas started his professional football career in 2005. He was not chosen in the 2005 NFL draft, which means no team picked him right away. However, the Tennessee Titans signed him as a free agent in April 2005. A free agent is a player who can sign with any team.
Early Career and Practice Squads
After signing with the Titans, Robert joined their practice squad. A practice squad is a group of players who train with the main team but usually don't play in games. They help the main team practice. Robert missed some training because of an injury. The Titans later let him go in November 2005.
In December 2005, Robert signed with the Houston Texans practice squad. He continued to work hard and train with different teams.
Moving Between Teams
In January 2006, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed Robert. This was a "future/reserve" contract, meaning he would join the team later. However, the Buccaneers let him go in July 2006. This was to make space for another player.
Robert then signed with the New York Giants in August 2006. But he was waived again later that month. To be "waived" means a team releases a player from their roster. He then returned to the Houston Texans practice squad for a short time.
Playing in the Arena Football League
In November 2006, Robert tried playing in a different league. He signed with the AFL team, the Kansas City Brigade. The AFL is a type of indoor football. He was waived by them in March 2007.
Back with the Giants and a Big Win
Even while with the Brigade, Robert got another chance with the New York Giants. He signed with their practice squad again in December 2006.
In 2007, Robert was the only fullback on the Giants' roster during training camp. He played in one NFL regular season game on September 23, 2007. Unfortunately, he had a knee injury and couldn't play for the rest of that season.
Even though he was injured, Robert was part of the New York Giants team that won Super Bowl XLII! The Super Bowl is the championship game of the NFL. This was a huge achievement for the team.
Life After Football
The Giants waived Robert Douglas in August 2008. This marked the end of his professional football career.
Robert Douglas is also a father. He has two children named Ryan Douglas and Robert Douglas.
