Robert Eugene Littell (January 9, 1936 – November 14, 2014) was an important American politician. He was a member of the Republican Party. Littell served in the New Jersey Senate from 1990 to 2008. Before that, he was in the New Jersey General Assembly from 1968 to 1990. He also served on the Franklin Borough Council from 1963 to 1965.
Robert Littell spent nearly 40 years working in the New Jersey Legislature. This made him one of the longest-serving lawmakers in the state's history at that time. He announced in 2007 that he would retire and not seek re-election.

Life and Political Career
Robert Littell was born in 1936 in Orange. His father, Alfred B. Littell, was also a State Senator. Robert went to Franklin High School and the Hun School of Princeton.
Military Service and Family
During the Korean War, Littell served in the United States Marine Corps for three years. He was honorably discharged in 1956.
His daughter, Alison Littell McHose, also became a politician. They were the first father-daughter team to serve in the New Jersey Legislature at the same time. His wife, Virginia Littell, was also involved in politics. She served as the chairman of the New Jersey Republican State Committee.
Key Roles in the Legislature
From 1992 to 2003, Senator Littell led the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee. This committee is very important because it handles how the state's money is spent. After that, he served as the Senate Budget Officer. He was also a member of other important committees.
On January 8, 2002, Littell was chosen as the acting president of the New Jersey Senate. He led the Senate for a short time that day.
Guiding Principles and Recognition
Robert Littell believed in a simple but powerful idea: "There is no right way, to do the wrong thing." This means you should always do what is right, no matter what.
He received honorary degrees from two colleges. In 1996, Centenary College of New Jersey gave him an honorary Doctor of Laws degree. He also joined their board of trustees. In 2001, he received an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters from the New Jersey Institute of Technology.
Robert Littell passed away in Franklin, New Jersey on November 14, 2014, at the age of 78.
