The Robert Frost Farm, also known as the Homer Noble Farm, is a special place in Ripton, Vermont. It's a National Historic Landmark, which means it's an important historical site in the United States. This farm was once the summer and fall home of a famous American poet named Robert Frost (1874-1963). He lived and wrote here from 1939 until he passed away in 1963.

The farm covers about 150-acre (61 ha) of land. It includes an old farmhouse from the 1800s and a simple wooden cabin where Frost often wrote his poems. Today, Middlebury College owns the property. You can visit the grounds during the day.

Robert Frost's Special Farm

The Robert Frost Farm is a quiet, beautiful place. It is located about 3 miles (4.8 km) east of Ripton, Vermont. The farm is surrounded by the Green Mountain National Forest. It is also close to Middlebury College's Bread Loaf Campus.

What Can You See There?

The main buildings at the farm are an old farmhouse and a small cabin. Robert Frost did most of his writing in this cabin.

The Farmhouse and Cabin

The farmhouse is a wooden building with one and a half stories. It has a classic New England look. The cabin is a simple, square log structure with a sloped roof. It has a screened porch where Frost could enjoy the outdoors. Inside, the cabin has a living area, a kitchen, a bathroom, and two small bedrooms.

The Apple Orchard

Between the cabin and the farmhouse, there is a small apple orchard. Robert Frost himself planted and took care of these apple trees. Southwest of the house, you can find a small shed. There are also old foundations of a barn that stood there when Frost owned the farm.

Who Was Robert Frost?

Robert Frost (1874-1963) was one of America's most famous poets. He wrote many poems and won the Pulitzer Prize four times! Frost bought this farm in 1940. He spent every summer and fall here until he died.

Five of his poetry books were written while he lived at this farm. One of his most famous books, A Witness Tree, won the Pulitzer Prize in 1943. Frost kept a large collection of books in his writing cabin. After he passed away, his family gave these books to the Jones Public Library in Amherst, Massachusetts. Frost's special chair, called a Morris Chair, was also in the cabin. Now, you can see it at the Middlebury College Davis Family Library.

Middlebury College bought the property in 1966. They have kept the farm much like it was when Robert Frost lived there.
