Geography of Ripton

Ripton is in the eastern part of Addison County, nestled within Vermont's Green Mountains. This area is very hilly and covered mostly by forests with hardwood trees.
Mountains and Natural Features
The highest point in Ripton is Bread Loaf Mountain, which stands at 3,835 feet (1,169 meters) tall. This mountain gives its name to a nearby community called Bread Loaf. It also inspired the name of a special writers' conference held there every summer.
While the path to Middlebury Gap starts in Ripton, the highest point of the Gap is actually in the neighboring town of Hancock.

Ripton shares its borders with several other towns. To the west, it's next to Middlebury. To the north, you'll find Bristol and Lincoln. East of Ripton is Granville. To the southeast, it borders Hancock, and to the south, Goshen. Finally, to the southwest, Ripton is next to Salisbury.
