Robert Glover (died 1555) was an English Protestant who lived a long time ago. He is remembered as a martyr because he was killed for his religious beliefs. He was burnt in Coventry in September 1555.

Who Was Robert Glover?

Robert Glover was born in a place called Mancetter, which is in Warwickshire, England. He went to school at Eton College and then studied at King's College, Cambridge. He was a very smart student and earned his first degree in 1538 and a master's degree in 1541. He even worked as a fellow at the college until 1543.

His Protestant Beliefs

During the time of King Henry VIII, Robert Glover became very interested in Protestant ideas. This was a period when many people in England were changing their religious views. He married a niece of Hugh Latimer, who was another important Protestant leader.

Standing Up for His Faith

In 1555, Robert Glover was arrested because of his Protestant beliefs. At that time, it was against the law to have certain religious views that were different from the official church. This was called "heresy." Because he would not change his mind, he was sentenced to death. On September 20, 1555, he was burnt to death in Coventry.

The Coventry Martyrs

Robert Glover is one of twelve people who died for their faith in Coventry during the reigns of King Henry VIII and Queen Mary I. These people are known together as the Coventry Martyrs. There is a special memorial in the city that remembers them and their bravery.
