Robert Guérin (born June 28, 1876 – died March 19, 1952) was a French journalist. He is best known as the first President and one of the people who helped start the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA). FIFA is the international group that runs football (soccer) around the world.

On May 23, 1904, when he was just 28 years old, Guérin was chosen to be FIFA's first president. He held this important job for two years.

Robert Guérin's Role in FIFA

Robert Guérin played a very important part in the early days of international football. He was a key person in creating FIFA, which is now one of the biggest sports organizations globally.

Starting FIFA: A New Era

Before FIFA, there was no single group to organize football matches between different countries. Guérin and other football leaders saw the need for this. They wanted to create rules that everyone could follow. They also wanted to make sure international games were fair and well-organized.

The First President

When FIFA was officially started on May 21, 1904, Robert Guérin was elected as its first leader. This happened just two days later, on May 23. His job was to help set up the new organization. He worked to bring different national football associations together. During his time, FIFA began to grow and include more countries.

Guérin's Time as President

Robert Guérin served as president for two years, from May 1904 to June 1906. During this time, FIFA was still very new. It was focused on getting more countries to join. It also worked on creating a clear structure for international football. Even though his term was short, he helped lay the groundwork for what FIFA would become.

What is FIFA Today?

Today, FIFA is the main governing body for football worldwide. It organizes major tournaments like the FIFA World Cup. It also sets the rules for the game. Robert Guérin's early work helped make this possible. He was a pioneer in bringing football to a global stage.
