Playing College Football
Robert Brown played college football for the University of Michigan from 1923 to 1925. He was a key player on the team.
Leading the 1925 Michigan Team
In his final year, 1925, Robert Brown was chosen as the captain of the 1925 Michigan Wolverines football team. This team was incredibly successful. Their coach, Fielding H. Yost, even said it was the best team he had ever coached!
The 1925 Wolverines were amazing at scoring points. They scored a total of 227 points against their opponents, while only letting the other teams score 3 points against them. This shows how strong their offense and defense were.
Coach Yost praised Brown, calling him "One of the greatest inspirational leaders I have seen." This means Robert Brown was not just a good player, but he also motivated his teammates to do their best.
Earning All-American Honors
At the end of the 1925 football season, Robert Brown was recognized as one of the best college football players in the entire country. He was selected as a first-team All-American by many different sports organizations and magazines.

Serving as a University Regent
Robert Brown also became involved in public service. He was the chairman of the Kalamazoo County Board of Supervisors. In 1966, he decided to run for a position on the University of Michigan Board of Regents.
The Board of Regents helps manage and guide the university. Robert Brown was elected as a Republican and served as a Regent from 1967 to 1974. This shows his continued dedication to the University of Michigan.
A Family Football Legacy
Robert Brown's family had a special connection to Michigan football. His son, Robert M. Brown, also played for the University of Michigan. Even more impressively, his son became the captain of the 1962 Michigan Wolverines football team.
This makes Robert J. Brown and Robert M. Brown the only father and son pair in the history of the University of Michigan football team who both served as team captains. What an amazing family tradition!
