Robert Ray Rigsby (born December 4, 1960) is an important judge in Washington, D.C. He serves as an associate judge for the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. Before becoming a judge, he was the top lawyer for the District of Columbia, known as the Corporation Counsel.
About Robert Rigsby
Robert Rigsby was born in San Francisco, California. He grew up in a town called Vallejo, California. His father worked as a cook in the United States Army. His mother was a nurse.
His Education and Early Career
While attending San Jose State University, Robert Rigsby joined the United States Army Reserve. He became an officer. After finishing law school at the University of California, Hastings College of the Law, he joined the Army's legal team. This team is called the JAG. He stayed in the Army until 2014.
In 1992, he worked briefly as a lawyer for the U.S. government. He then joined the District of Columbia's legal office. He started as the head of the criminal division. He worked his way up in the office. In February 2000, he became the main lawyer for the District of Columbia. This job was later renamed Attorney General for the District of Columbia.
Becoming a Judge
President George W. Bush chose Robert Rigsby to be a judge on March 2, 2002. The United States Senate approved his nomination on July 25, 2002. He officially became a judge on October 11, 2002. He has been serving as a judge ever since.
His Family Life
Robert Rigsby is married to Anna Blackburne-Rigsby. She is also a very important judge. She is the chief judge of the District of Columbia Court of Appeals. She used to work alongside him on the Superior Court until 2006.
