Robert Ray Rigsby, born on December 4, 1960, is an important judge in Washington, D.C. He works as an associate judge for the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. Before becoming a judge, he was also the top lawyer for Washington, D.C., known as the Corporation Counsel.

Robert Rigsby's Early Life and Career Path

Robert Rigsby grew up in Vallejo, California, after being born in San Francisco. His father worked as a cook in the United States Army, and his mother was a nurse.

College and Military Service

While attending San Jose State University, Robert Rigsby joined the United States Army Reserve. He became a second lieutenant, which is an officer rank. After finishing law school at the University of California, Hastings College of the Law, he joined the Army's legal team. This team is called the JAG. He served in the Army until 2014.

Working as a Lawyer

In 1992, Rigsby worked briefly as a lawyer for the U.S. government in Virginia. After that, he joined the Corporation Counsel's office in Washington, D.C. This office handles legal matters for the city. He started as the head of the criminal division. He worked hard and moved up in the office. In February 2000, he became the Corporation Counsel. This job was later renamed the Attorney General for the District of Columbia.

Becoming a Judge

President George W. Bush chose Robert Rigsby to be a judge for the Superior Court in Washington, D.C. This happened on March 2, 2002. The United States Senate approved his nomination on July 25, 2002. He officially became a judge on October 11, 2002.

Robert Rigsby's Family Life

Robert Rigsby is married to Anna Blackburne-Rigsby. She is also a very important judge. She is the chief judge of the District of Columbia Court of Appeals. She even served as a judge alongside him on the Superior Court until 2006.
