Robert Paul Rose was a talented American-Australian professional basketball player. He was born on December 27, 1964. Robert played most of his career in Australia's National Basketball League (NBL). He won a championship with the South East Melbourne Magic in 1992. Robert was also named the NBL Most Valuable Player twice, in 1993 and 2001. People called him "Australia's Michael Jordan" because he was great at making important shots and playing defense.

Growing Up and High School Years
Robert Rose was born in Rochester, New York. He was the youngest of nine children in his family. When he was a kid, Robert loved the Cincinnati Reds baseball team. He dreamed of becoming a professional baseball player.
Robert went to Cardinal Mooney High School. He was the star player for the school's basketball team. In his final year, he led the team to win the Section V Class AAA title.
How Robert Rose Was Discovered
Robert planned to play basketball at a smaller college. But then, Bob Ward, a volunteer coach for the George Mason Patriots, saw him play. This happened during Christmas break in December 1981. Ward convinced the head coach, Rick Barnes, to watch Robert. The coach was very impressed with Robert's skills.
College Basketball Career
Robert Rose played college basketball for the George Mason Patriots. He played there from 1982 to 1986. He was supposed to sit out his first year, but he was so good that he earned a starting spot right away.
College Achievements
In his last year, Robert helped the Patriots reach their first National Invitational Tournament (NIT). He was recognized as a top player in his college conferences. Robert is still one of the best players in Patriots history. He ranks high in points, rebounds, steals, and blocks.
Professional Basketball Journey

Playing in the NBA

Success in Australia's NBL
Robert started his NBL career in 1992 with the South-East Melbourne Magic. He quickly led his team to win the championship that year. This was his only NBL championship. The next year, Robert was named the National Basketball League MVP. He averaged great stats, including 18.6 points and 8.5 assists per game.
Time with the Adelaide 36ers
In 1994, Robert joined the Adelaide 36ers. He teamed up with other great players like Mark Davis and Phil Smyth. They made it to the 1994 NBL Grand Final Series. They lost to the North Melbourne Giants, but Robert played amazingly, averaging 32 points in the series. He also won the 36ers' MVP award in 1994 and 1995. In 1995, he was the MVP of the NBL (Australia) All-Star Game.

Robert then played for the Canberra Cannons for three years. He was named to the All NBL First Team in 1996 and 1997. He helped the Cannons reach the Semi Finals in 1996.
Leading the Townsville Crocodiles
After Canberra, Robert joined the Townsville Crocodiles. He became their captain and helped turn the team around. He led them to the semi-finals and grand final in 1999–2000 and 2000–01. Robert won his second league MVP award in 2001. However, the Crocodiles lost the grand final series.
Retirement from Basketball
After the 2005–06 season, the Crocodiles decided not to renew Robert's contract. He was 42 years old at the time. He then signed with the Cairns Taipans for a short time. Robert retired in December 2006, after playing in 472 NBL games.
Life After Basketball
In 1996, Robert Rose owned a sports card shop in Melbourne, Australia. He had a huge collection of 50,000 sports cards!
