By the time he was in eighth grade, Robert was already 6 feet 8 inches tall! His mom only wanted him to learn how to swim. She did not push him to play basketball.
High School Basketball Success
Robert became one of the best high school basketball players in Canada. In his junior year, he led Handsworth Secondary School to win the British Columbia Provincial Championship. He was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the final game. He scored 17 points, grabbed 12 rebounds, and blocked four shots.
That same year, he played for the Canadian Junior National team. He played in the 2005 Global Games and the 2006 World Championship qualifiers. In his senior year, he averaged 25 points, 12 rebounds, and four and a half blocks per game. Experts like Rivals.com saw him as a top player. College Basketball Journey
Robert Sacre decided to play for NCAA Division I team Gonzaga University for the 2007–08 season. In his first year, he played about nine minutes per game, coming off the bench. In the 2008–09 season, he broke his foot after only three games. He was later given a "medical redshirt." This meant he could get that year back and play college basketball for another season.
Robert came back strong for the 2009–10 season. He became the starting center for the Bulldogs. He averaged 10.3 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks per game. By 2012, when he finished his college career, Robert had scored 1,270 points. He also had 679 rebounds and 186 blocks.
