Robert Scholl (born April 13, 1891 – died October 25, 1973) was a German politician. He was the father of Hans and Sophie Scholl, who became famous for their brave actions against the Nazi Party. Robert Scholl himself spoke out against the Nazis many times. He was even sent to prison twice for his strong opinions. He served as a mayor in different towns, including Ingersheim and Forchtenberg. After World War II, he became the lord mayor of Ulm. In 1952, he helped start a new political group called the All-German People's Party.

Robert Scholl's Early Life

Robert Scholl was born in Mainhardt, a town in Germany, on April 13, 1891. During World War I, he met Magdalena Müller, who would become his wife. They met while both were working in the same hospital. Soon after, they got married and moved to a town called Ingersheim an der Jagst.

In 1920, the family moved again to Forchtenberg. Robert and Magdalena had six children. Their names were Inge, Hans, Elisabeth, Sophie, Werner, and Thilde. Sadly, four of their children passed away before their parents did. The family moved to Ludwigsburg in 1930 and then to Ulm in 1932. In Ulm, Robert Scholl started his own business helping people with their taxes and money.

Robert Scholl's Political Journey

Robert Scholl began his career in politics as a mayor. He became the mayor of Ingersheim an der Jagst in 1917. In 1920, he became the mayor of Forchtenberg, a role he held for ten years until 1930.

Scholl was very critical of the Nazi Party, which gained power in Germany. At first, his children, like many young people at the time, joined Nazi youth groups. Robert Scholl tried to explain his concerns to them. Over time, his children realized the truth about the Nazi regime. Hans and Sophie, along with friends, later formed a brave group called the White Rose. This group secretly worked to resist the Nazis.

In 1942, Robert Scholl was sent to prison for four months. This happened because he spoke out against Adolf Hitler. The family's situation became very difficult. In February 1943, just five days after his children Hans and Sophie were executed for their work with the White Rose, Robert Scholl was again sent to prison. This time, he was sentenced to 18 months for listening to foreign radio broadcasts, which was against the law.

After World War II ended, Robert Scholl continued his political work. He served as the mayor of Ulm from 1945 to 1948. He also helped create the first parliament for the region of Württemberg-Baden. In 1952, he co-founded the All-German People's Party with other politicians who shared his views.
