Robert Snodgrass, born on September 7, 1987, is a Scottish former professional footballer. He played as a winger, which is a type of midfielder who plays on the sides of the field.
Snodgrass began his professional football journey with Livingston in Scotland. He also played on loan for Stirling Albion. In 2008, he moved to England and joined Leeds United. He helped Leeds get promoted to the Championship in 2010.
Later, Snodgrass became the captain of Leeds in 2012. He then moved to Norwich City. After Norwich was relegated in 2014, he joined Hull City. He faced a serious knee injury early at Hull, which kept him out for over a year. Despite this, he helped Hull get promoted through the playoffs in 2016.
In 2017, Snodgrass moved to West Ham United. He also spent time on loan at Aston Villa. After leaving West Ham in 2021, he played for West Bromwich Albion, Luton Town, and Heart of Midlothian before ending his career.
He played for Scotland at different youth levels, including the under-21 team. He joined the Scotland national team in 2009 and played his first game in 2011. Snodgrass stopped playing international football in October 2019. He played 28 games for Scotland and scored seven goals.

Early Life and First Steps in Football
Robert Snodgrass was born in Glasgow, Scotland. He grew up in an area of the city called Gallowgate. As a young boy, he played football for a team connected to Rangers.
When he was choosing which club to join, he had offers from Celtic, Clyde, and Livingston. He decided to join Livingston because he felt he would have a better chance to play in the first team there.
Club Career Highlights
Livingston F.C.
Snodgrass started his professional career at Livingston. He scored 15 goals in 79 league games for the club. He even turned down a chance to try out for the famous Spanish team Barcelona.
Before becoming a full professional, he also had an offer to move to Blackburn Rovers, but he chose to stay with Livingston. After recovering from a foot injury, he went on loan to Stirling Albion in 2007 to get back into playing shape.
He became a regular player for Livingston during the 2005–06 season. Even though his team was relegated to a lower division, he continued to play well. In the 2007–08 season, he scored ten goals. He was offered a new contract but decided to move on. In July 2008, he joined Leeds United.
Leeds United F.C.
Snodgrass joined Leeds United in 2008. He made his debut in the first game of the season against Scunthorpe United. He scored his first goal for Leeds in a League Cup match against Chester City.
After a strong start, he became a key player for Leeds. In his first season, he scored 11 goals and made 19 assists, helping his teammates score.
Promotion to the Championship
Before the 2009–10 season, Snodgrass signed a new four-year contract with Leeds. He scored two goals against Watford in the League Cup. He also scored an important late goal against Milton Keynes Dons in a league game.
In May 2010, he was chosen for the PFA Team of the Year for League One, which is a team of the best players in the league. Snodgrass played a very important role as Leeds finished second in League One. This meant they were automatically promoted to The Championship, a higher division. In his second season, he scored 10 goals and made 14 assists.

In July 2010, Snodgrass suffered a knee injury during a pre-season game. Luckily, it was not as serious as first thought, and he returned to training a few weeks later. He came back to play for Leeds as a substitute against Doncaster Rovers.

Becoming Club Captain
In June 2011, Leeds valued Snodgrass at £8 million and wanted to offer him a new contract. He missed a League Cup match in August 2011 because he was called up to play for the Scotland squad. He scored his first goal of the 2011–12 season with a free-kick against Hull City.
On December 31, 2011, Snodgrass had an emergency operation to remove his appendix. He returned to play just two weeks later, scoring in a 1–1 draw against Crystal Palace.
In February 2012, the new Leeds manager, Neil Warnock, made Snodgrass the club captain. Snodgrass finished the season with 13 goals and 14 assists, which was the second-highest number of assists in The Championship. He won both the Fans Player of the Year and Players' Player of the Year awards for Leeds that season.
Norwich City F.C.
In July 2012, Snodgrass signed a three-year contract with Norwich City. He made his debut on August 18, 2012, in a game against Fulham. He scored his first goal for Norwich on September 1, 2012, in a 1–1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur.
Snodgrass quickly became a regular player for Norwich. The club finished 11th in the league that season. Norwich fans voted him as the second-best player of the season.

He scored his first goal of the 2013–14 season with a free-kick against West Ham United. He scored again in February 2014 against Tottenham, which was the only goal in a 1–0 win for Norwich.
Hull City A.F.C.
On June 30, 2014, Hull City signed Snodgrass for a fee believed to be over £6 million. In August 2014, during a game against Queens Park Rangers, Snodgrass dislocated his kneecap. This serious injury required surgery and kept him out of action for over a year.
He made his return to first-team football in December 2015 in a League Cup match against Manchester City. In January 2016, he scored a penalty in an FA Cup match against Brighton & Hove Albion. In December 2016, he won a penalty in a game against Crystal Palace and later apologized for diving.
In January 2017, Hull accepted offers for Snodgrass from West Ham and Burnley.
West Ham United F.C.

On January 27, 2017, Snodgrass joined West Ham United for £10.2 million. He made his debut for West Ham on February 1, 2017, as a substitute against Manchester City. His first start was against Southampton, a game West Ham won 3–1.
In August 2017, after playing 15 games without scoring, Snodgrass was allowed to leave West Ham on loan.
Loan to Aston Villa
On August 25, 2017, Snodgrass joined Aston Villa on loan for the rest of the 2017–18 season. He quickly impressed his manager, Steve Bruce. He scored his first goal for Aston Villa in a 4–0 win against Burton Albion.
During his loan spell, he scored seven goals and made 14 assists. He helped Aston Villa reach the play-off final, where they lost 1–0 to Fulham. His 14 assists made him one of the top assisters in the EFL Championship that season.
After his loan, Snodgrass returned to West Ham. He scored his first two goals for West Ham in an 8–0 win against Macclesfield Town in the EFL Cup in September 2018. In July 2019, Snodgrass signed a contract extension with West Ham until 2021. He left the club in January 2021 to join West Bromwich Albion.
Later Career Clubs
On January 8, 2021, Snodgrass joined West Bromwich Albion. He made his debut on January 16 in a 3–2 win against Wolverhampton Wanderers. He left West Bromwich Albion in January 2022.
In February 2022, Snodgrass signed with Luton Town until the end of the 2021–22 season. He left Luton at the end of that season.
On September 6, 2022, Snodgrass signed a one-year contract with Scottish Premiership club Heart of Midlothian. He was released by Hearts in April 2023.
On January 16, 2024, Robert Snodgrass announced that he had retired from professional football.
International Career for Scotland

Robert Snodgrass played for Scotland at various youth levels, including the under-19, under-20, and under-21 teams. He was part of the Scotland under-19 squad that reached the final of the 2006 European Under-19 Championships. He also played for Scotland under-20 in the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Canada.
He was first called up to the senior Scotland squad in October 2009 for a friendly game against Japan, but he had to withdraw due to a knee injury. Snodgrass made his full international debut on February 9, 2011, as a substitute against Northern Ireland. He also played against Brazil in March 2011.
On August 2, 2011, Snodgrass was called up to the squad for a friendly against Denmark. He made his first start for Scotland in this game and also scored his first international goal. On June 7, 2013, during a 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying match, he scored the only goal in a 1–0 win against Croatia. This was a big win as it was Croatia's first competitive home defeat since 2008.
The kneecap injury he suffered in August 2014 meant Snodgrass missed the entire UEFA Euro 2016 qualifying campaign. He returned to the national squad in March 2016 for a friendly match. In the first match of the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification, Snodgrass scored three goals (a hat-trick) in a 5–1 win against Malta.
On October 16, 2019, Snodgrass retired from international football. He had played 28 games for Scotland and scored 7 goals.
