Roberto Bonano's Football Journey
Playing for Clubs
Roberto Bonano was born in Rosario, Santa Fe, Argentina. In his home country, he played for two important teams: Rosario Central and Club Atlético River Plate. With River Plate, he won many championships, including five Argentine Primera División titles.
In 2001, when he was 31, he moved to Spain to play for FC Barcelona. At first, he was the main goalkeeper for the team. He played his first game in the top Spanish league, La Liga, on 26 August 2001. Barcelona won that game 2–1 against Sevilla FC.
Later, a young goalkeeper named Víctor Valdés started playing very well for Barcelona. Because of this, Roberto Bonano moved to another Spanish team, Real Murcia CF. After his team was moved down to a lower league in 2004, he joined Deportivo Alavés.
With Alavés, Roberto Bonano helped the team get promoted back to the top league in 2005. However, in the next season, he was not the main goalkeeper. Another Argentine player, Franco Costanzo, who had also played with Bonano at River Plate, became the first-choice goalkeeper. That season, Alavés was moved down to a lower league again.
Roberto Bonano's last year at Alavés was a bit difficult. He retired from playing football when he was 38 years old.
