Roberto Oscar Bonano, born on January 24, 1970, is a former professional football player from Argentina. He was a goalkeeper, which means he protected the goal.
When he was in his thirties, Roberto moved from Argentina to Spain. He played for three different teams there, spending most of his time with Alavés. His professional career lasted 17 years.
He also played for Argentina's national team 13 times. He was even part of the team that went to the 2002 FIFA World Cup.

Club Football Journey
Roberto Bonano was born in Rosario, Santa Fe, Argentina. In his home country, he played for two important clubs. These were Rosario Central and River Plate.
He won many championships with River Plate. These included five Argentine Primera División titles. In 2001, when he was 31, he moved to Spain. He joined the famous club Barcelona.
He started as the main goalkeeper for Barcelona. His first game in La Liga was on August 26, 2001. Barcelona won that game 2–1 against Sevilla FC.
Later, a young goalkeeper named Víctor Valdés became very good at Barcelona. Because of this, Bonano moved to Real Murcia CF in 2003. After his team was relegated, he joined Deportivo Alavés in 2004.
With Alavés, he helped the team get promoted to the top league in 2005. The next season, he was often a backup goalkeeper. He retired from playing football in 2008, when he was 38 years old.
International Appearances
Roberto Bonano played for Argentina's national team at different youth levels. He made his first game for the senior national team on December 28, 1996. This was a friendly game against Yugoslavia.
He was chosen to be part of the Argentina squad for the 2002 FIFA World Cup. He was a backup goalkeeper for that tournament. In total, he played 13 matches for his country over four years.
Coaching Career
After retiring as a player, Bonano started a coaching career. From 2011 to 2013, he worked as an assistant coach. He helped Eduardo Berizzo at Estudiantes de La Plata and then at O'Higgins F.C. in Chile.
He later returned to Spain. There, he was an assistant coach and goalkeeper coach for RCD Mallorca. On July 6, 2015, he joined Berizzo again. This time, he was part of the coaching staff at RC Celta de Vigo. Two years later, he followed Berizzo to Sevilla FC, working in the same role.
