Robin McMaugh Klein (born 28 February 1936) is a famous Australian author. She writes many popular books for children and young adults. Robin Klein was born in Kempsey, New South Wales, Australia. Today, she lives near Melbourne.

About Robin Klein's Life

Robin Klein grew up in a big family with eight brothers and sisters. She started writing at a young age. Her very first short story was published when she was just 16 years old!

Before becoming a full-time writer, Robin had many different jobs. She worked as a tea lady in a warehouse, helped out in a bookshop, and even worked as a nurse. She also did copper enameling and was a program aide at a school for kids who needed extra help.

In 1981, she received a special grant to help her focus on writing. Since then, Robin Klein has published more than 20 books. She is also known for her poem called "Amanda!". Robin went to high school at Newcastle Girls' High School.

Her Amazing Books and Awards

Many of Robin Klein's books have been recognized with important awards. Several of them were chosen as finalists for the Children's Book Council of Australia (CBCA) Australian Children's Book of the Year Award.

One of her most famous books is Hating Alison Ashley. This book was so popular that it was even made into a movie starring singer Delta Goodrem. Another well-known book is Halfway Across the Galaxy and Turn Left. This story was turned into a television series for the Seven Network in 1992.

Robin Klein's novel Came Back to Show You I Could Fly won a human rights award for literature in 1989. It also won the 1990 CBCA Children's Book of the Year Award: Older Readers. This book was later made into a film called Say a Little Prayer in 1993.

Other books by Robin Klein have also won awards in Australia. For example, she won the South Australian Festival Award for Literature in 1998 for her book The Listmaker. Many of her other books, like Boss of the Pool, have also won or been finalists for awards.

Sadly, due to health reasons, Robin Klein has not been able to write new books or do many public appearances since 2005.
