Robinah Nabbanja was born on December 17, 1969. She is an important Ugandan teacher and politician. She made history by becoming the first female Prime Minister of Uganda. She started this big job on June 21, 2021.
Before becoming Prime Minister, she worked as a State Minister of Health. This means she helped manage health services for the country. She also serves as a Member of Parliament (MP). An MP is someone elected by people to represent them in the country's government. She represents the women of Kakumiro District.
Early Life and School
Robinah Nabbanja was born in what is now Kakumiro District in Uganda. She went to Nkooko Primary School when she was young. Later, she studied at St. Edward's Secondary School, Bukuumi. Here, she completed her O-Level and A-Level studies.
Between 1990 and 2000, she earned many certificates and diplomas. These were in areas like leadership and management. She studied at places like Uganda Martyrs University and the Islamic University in Uganda. She also earned a Bachelor's degree in Democracy and Development Studies. Later, she got a Master's degree in Development Studies from Uganda Martyrs University.
In October 2023, she earned another Master's degree. This one was in Monitoring and Evaluation from Nkumba University.
Her Career Journey
Robinah Nabbanja started her career as a school teacher. She taught at Uganda Martyrs Secondary School Kakumiro from 1993 to 1996. After teaching, she became a District Councillor. This meant she helped make decisions for her local area, Nkooko Sub-County. She did this from 1998 to 2001. During that time, she also worked as the Secretary for Health and Community Services for the district.
For the next ten years, from 2001 to 2010, she worked as a Resident District Commissioner. This is a government role where she helped manage different districts like Pallisa and Busia.
In 2011, she decided to run for a political office. She successfully became a Member of Parliament for Kibaale District. When Kakumiro District was created in 2016, she ran for MP there and won again. She is still the MP for Kakumiro District today.
In December 2019, she was chosen to be the State Minister of Health. She was in charge of general health duties. She officially started this role in January 2020.
Then, in June 2021, something even bigger happened. Robinah Nabbanja was named the Prime Minister of Uganda. This is a very important role in the country's government.
