Robinah Nabbanja was born on 17 December 1969. She is a Ugandan teacher and politician. She currently serves as the Prime Minister of Uganda. She was chosen for this important role on 8 June 2021. The Parliament of Uganda officially approved her on 21 June 2021.
Robinah Nabbanja is very special because she is the first woman to become Prime Minister of Uganda. Before this, she worked as the State Minister of Health for General Duties. This means she helped manage health services in Uganda. She held this position from December 2019 to May 2021.
She is also an elected Member of Parliament (MP). She represents the women of Kakumiro District. She has been an MP since 2016.
Early Life and Education
Robinah Nabbanja was born in what is now Kakumiro District in Uganda. This was on 17 December 1969. She went to Nkooko Primary School for her early education. Later, she studied at St. Edward's Secondary School Bukuumi. Here, she completed her O-Level and A-Level studies.
Between 1990 and 2000, Robinah Nabbanja gained many certificates and diplomas. These were in areas like leadership and development. She studied at different places, including Uganda Martyrs University and the Uganda Management Institute. She also attended the Islamic University in Uganda.
She earned a Bachelor's degree in Democracy and Development Studies. She also got a Master of Arts degree in Development Studies. Both of these degrees were from Uganda Martyrs University. In October 2023, she completed another Master of Arts degree. This one was in Monitoring and Evaluation from Nkumba University.
Her Career Journey
Robinah Nabbanja started her career as a school teacher. From 1993 to 1996, she taught at Uganda Martyrs Secondary School Kakumiro. After teaching, she became a District Councillor. She represented Nkooko Sub-County in the former Kibaale District. She held this role from 1998 to 2001. During this time, she also served as the Secretary for Health, Gender, and Community Services for the district.
For the next ten years, from 2001 to 2010, she worked as a Resident District Commissioner. This is a government official who represents the president in a district. She worked in Pallisa, Busia, and Budaka districts.
In 2011, she entered national politics. She successfully ran to become the Women Representative for Kibaale District in Parliament. When Kakumiro District was created in 2016, she ran again. She won the election to represent the women of the new district. She is still the Member of Parliament for Kakumiro District today.
On 14 December 2019, she was appointed as the State Minister of Health (General Duties). She was sworn into this new role on 13 January 2020. Then, on 8 June 2021, she was named the Prime Minister of Uganda. This was a very big step in her career.
