About Robson Lake
Robson Lake is not officially named, but it is well-known in the area. It sits high up in the mountains of British Columbia, Canada. The lake is quite small, about 0.9 kilometers (0.56 miles) long and 0.4 kilometers (0.25 miles) wide. It is located at an elevation of about 1,673 meters (5,489 feet) above sea level. Imagine being that high up!
Where Does the Water Come From?
The main source of water for Robson Lake is the mighty Robson Glacier. This huge sheet of ice slowly melts, and its water flows directly into the south end of the lake. Glaciers are like giant, slow-moving rivers of ice. As they melt, they feed lakes and rivers.
Where Does the Water Go?
The water from Robson Lake flows out from its north end, forming the beginning of the Robson River. This river doesn't stay a single stream for long. Soon after leaving the lake, the Robson River splits into many smaller channels. These are called "braids" because they look like braided hair from above. Eventually, the Robson River flows into another famous lake nearby, called Berg Lake.
Why is it Special?
Robson Lake is a great example of how glaciers shape our landscape. It shows how melting ice can create beautiful lakes and start new rivers. The lake is part of a stunning natural environment in the Canadian Rockies. This area is famous for its tall mountains, clear lakes, and amazing wildlife.
