Rock is a small community in Delta County, Michigan. It's called an "unincorporated community" because it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's part of a larger area called Maple Ridge Township.

Rock is located along a highway called M-35 and near the Canadian National Railway. It's about 16.5 miles (26.6 km) north-northwest of Gladstone. The community even has its own post office with the ZIP code 49880.

The Story of Rock's Name

Rock was first settled in 1865 by workers building the Chicago and North Western Railway. Early settlers like J.R. Steele and George English helped the community grow.

The area had a few different names over the years. It was first called Malton Spur, and then just Malton. A post office opened there in 1879. Later, it was renamed Maple Ridge.

The name changed to Rock when they applied for a new post office. The new name was suggested by John Niequist. It came from the many rocks found in the area. The new post office officially opened on June 16, 1886, with Niequist as the postmaster.

  • Winters: They are cold, and can sometimes be very cold with lots of snow.
